Ethernet

Ethernet is simply a way to connect your devices to the internet (or to each other) using a physical cable instead of Wi-Fi.

You know that cable that plugs into the back of your computer or router… the one that looks like an oversized phone jack? That’s an Ethernet cable. It carries internet data between your devices the same way a garden hose carries water between the spigot and your flower bed.

So why would you use a cable when Wi-Fi exists? Two big reasons: speed and reliability.

An Ethernet connection is almost always faster than Wi-Fi, and it doesn’t drop out when your neighbor fires up their microwave. If your computer sits near your router and you want the strongest, most stable connection possible… plugging in an Ethernet cable is the easiest upgrade you can make.
