Just when you thought you’d seen it all—along come the robots, and they’re doing the mashed potato better than most of us ever could.
In a jaw-dropping video that’s equal parts dazzling and just a tiny bit unsettling, four robots from Boston Dynamics take to the dance floor (well, the lab floor) and bust a move to “Do You Love Me?” by The Contours.
And these aren’t stiff, clunky movements. We’re talking full-on, high-stepping, twisting, grooving choreography—with better rhythm than Uncle Bob at your cousin’s wedding.
Leading the charge are two Atlas robots—humanoid machines that hop, kick, twirl, and even nail some pretty fancy footwork.
Right behind them comes Spot, the company’s now-famous robotic dog, who trots in with more swagger than most of us have before our morning coffee.
Then there’s Handle, a robot on wheels, gliding around like the smooth operator he was built to be.
This wasn’t some digital trickery either. These robots are really moving—thanks to some mind-blowing advances in balance, coordination, and programming.
Boston Dynamics released the video to show just how far robotics have come, and let’s just say: mission accomplished. These aren’t your old-school robots that stumble around like toddlers in a snowsuit. These machines move with an agility and grace that feels…well, almost human.
Of course, Boston Dynamics didn’t build all these robots just for dance-offs (although we’d pay good money to see more). Here’s what each of them usually does when they’re not getting funky:
Whether you think this leap in robotics is amazing, a little spooky, or a bit of both, one thing’s for sure: the future isn’t just knocking at the door anymore. It’s twisting, hopping, and moonwalking right through it.
