Can You Hear Me Now? Your Guide to Fixing Phone Call Audio

Are you tired of constantly asking, “Can you hear me?” during phone calls?

Do you feel like it sounds as if the person you’re talking to is shouting into a tin can connected by a string?

Fear not!

Your trusty phone has some tricks up its sleeve to help you communicate clearly, even if you’re in a noisy bingo hall or at a rowdy shuffleboard tournament.

Below we’ll look at some settings to help you hear – and be heard – better when using your smartphone.

So whether you’re Team iPhone or Team Android, you’ll be able to carry on conversations without resorting to smoke signals or carrier pigeons.

Clear Calls on iPhones

First, let’s talk about iPhones. Apple has introduced a nifty feature called Voice Isolation mode. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Make your call as usual.
  2. When your friend picks up, swipe down from the top right of your screen to access the Control Center.
  3. Look for a button labeled Mic Mode. Tap on it and choose Voice Isolation.

Voila! Your iPhone will now prioritize your voice and block out the ambient noise. You can use this feature not only in the Phone app but also in FaceTime, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and other calling apps. It’s like having a personal sound technician in your pocket!

Now For Team Samsung…

For you Android phone users, there’s a similar solution. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on Sounds and vibration.
  3. Select Sound quality and effects.
  4. You’ll see an option called Adapt sound. Tap on it and choose a preset option that matches your age group (Under 30 years old, 30 to 60 years old, or Over 60 years old), or tap Test my hearing to create a custom profile.

It’s like having a hearing aid built right into your phone!

Still Having Issues?

If you’re still having trouble hearing the person on the other end, try using the volume buttons on the side of your phone or switching to speakerphone.

If you have an iPhone, you can also use other Apple devices like iPads or Macs if they’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network and logged into the same Apple ID. Bigger devices often have better mics and speakers.

Wi-Fi Calling: A Lifesaver in Low Reception Areas

If your cell reception is as spotty as a Dalmatian, Wi-Fi calling might be your knight in shining armor. This feature lets you make calls over your Wi-Fi network, bypassing the need for strong cell signal.

For iPhone users:

  1. Open Settings: Go to Settings.
  2. Select Phone: Tap on Phone.
  3. Enable Wi-Fi Calling: Choose Wi-Fi Calling and toggle it on.

For Android users:

  1. Open Settings: Go to Settings.
  2. Network and Internet: Tap Network and Internet.
  3. Calls and SMS: Select Calls and SMS.
  4. Enable Wi-Fi Calling: Tap on the name of your carrier and enable Wi-Fi Calling.

Final Thoughts

Remember, while these features can greatly enhance your call quality, they’re not magic wands. If you’re still having issues, it might be worth checking if your phone needs an update or if there are other underlying issues with your device.

But with these tips, your calls should be clearer, making those precious conversations with loved ones all the more enjoyable. Now, go forth and chat with confidence!
